Born in Germany,
Dr. Dietrich Steinberg has always had a great love for animals. His childhood visits to his uncle's farm are
still treasured memories. He attended
grade school and high school in Zeulenroda in former East Germany. The then-existing difficult political times
in East Germany limited
his education opportunities, and as a result, he left East Germany in 1957 at the age
of seventeen. After spending some time
in refugee camps, he returned to high school in Giessen, West Germany.
In 1958, his great childhood dream came true as he was
able to enroll at the Veterinary School of the Justus-Liebig
University in Giessen. In 1960, he transferred to the Veterinary School
of Hannover where he graduated in 1963. Upon graduation, he participated in an
exchange internship program in Finland
at the University
of Helsinki.
From 1968 to 1970, he worked in a very high-quality small
animal hospital in Basel,
Switzerland,
receiving special training in orthopedic surgery. Returning to the United
States in June of 1970, he worked at the Humane Society
in St. Louis, Missouri and started his own animal clinic
in 1973.
Dr. Steinberg sees in each animal a unique and special
being with its own character and feelings. He believes that each of his patients' lives
have certain spiritual qualities of its own. He sees creation as a beautiful gift of God
and he shows great respect for all its different forms.

About Karla Harris ...
Engaging her audiences with vibrant vocals that range from quiet vulnerability to soul-tinged power, jazz vocalist Karla Harris has earned a reputation for expressive vocals that breathe skill and nuance.
Karla's career began in her hometown of St. Louis at an early age, singing alongside one of the Midwest’s most revered jazz singers, Jeanne Trevor. It wasn’t long before Karla was sharing the limelight, performing with many of the area’s best instrumentalists. Her strong, wide-ranged vocals, versatility and compelling stage presence quickly captured musicians and listeners alike, and established her as one of the area’s most lively performers, one who delivers a song with warmth and spirit uniquely hers. Her reputation has grown, bringing her voice to premier venues where she shares the stage with top musicians who have backed performers such as Diane Schuur, Joe Cocker, Ben Vereen and Mel Tormé.
In 2004, Karla was invited to team with Tom Kennedy, an internationally acclaimed jazz bassist known for his work with such greats as Rosemary Clooney, Freddie Hubbard and Dave Weckl, to name a few. With Tom’s quartet, Karla delved more deeply into her jazz beginnings, displaying a soulful propensity for conveying the melodies and lyrics of the great standards. The collaboration moved from stage to studio when the two recorded “Twice as Nice,” a CD featuring 14 tunes from seven favorite jazz composers and released on Bent Oak Records. Of the recording, Jazz Scene by the Jazz Society of Oregon writes, “Always respectful of her American Songbook choices, Harris has superb intonation and a somewhat contemporary, yet appealing approach to the songs.”
Currently living on the west coast, Karla performs regularly there and elsewhere, weaving an entrancing tapestry of standards that cross musical eras and genres. She’s been a featured artist at clubs, festivals and revues from Newport, Oregon, to Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.
Regarding her show, Clubscene magazine writes, “Karla Harris engages the audience and makes us happy to be sharing the evening with her,” and “Powering from somewhere out of the Midwest came Karla Harris to thrill us… She tends to take the stage by storm and doesn't let go till it's all over.”
